KNT PAN Rules of Procedure

§ 1

1. The scope of activities of the Theological Sciences Committee of the Polish Academy of Sciences, hereinafter referred to as the "Committee", includes matters listed in art. 36 sec. 1 of the Act of 30 April 2010 on the Polish Academy of Sciences (Journal of Laws No. 96, item 619, as amended), taking into account the specificity of the scientific disciplines of the Committee.

2. The Committee may in particular:

1) conduct publishing activities and evaluate and express opinions on the level and needs of scientific publishing houses in the field of theological sciences;

2) collaborate in the dissemination of research results and scientific works, organize discussions and scientific conferences;

3) analyze and evaluate the state of theological sciences and express opinions on the scientific policy of the state, especially the directions of development and research priorities of these sciences;

4) cooperate with governmental bodies, in particular with the Ministry of Science and Higher Education, the General Council of Higher Education and the Central Commission for Degrees and Titles, in matters concerning the assessment of the state, level, research priorities and directions of theology development; 5) cooperate with the Scientific Council of the Polish Episcopal Conference and the Polish Ecumenical Council;

6) initiate research, give opinions on applications for the creation of theological institutions and evaluate research programs in the field of theology;

7) develop, at the request of governmental bodies, the authorities of the Polish Academy of Sciences and on their own initiative, expert opinions, and provide scientific advice and present scientific opinions in the field of theological sciences;

8) analyze and evaluate curricula, express opinions in matters of educating scientific staff and conduct activities activating participation in the scientific life of the country and ensure the development of young scientific staff in the field of theological sciences;

9) initiate and conduct cooperation with foreign organizations and research centers;

10) give opinions on candidates for correspondent members of the Polish Academy of Sciences in the field of theological sciences;

11) submit and give opinions on applications for scientific awards in the field of theological sciences;

12) coordinate the cooperation of specialized associations of theologians, co-organize congresses of Polish theologians.

 

§ 2

The bodies of the Committee are:

1) President of the Committee,

2) Presidium of the Committee (consisting of the president, two vice-presidents and three members).

 

§ 3

The tasks of the Chairman of the committee include in particular:

1) calling the meetings of the Presidium of the Committee no less than four times a year, establishing the agenda and presiding these meetings;

2) convening plenary meetings of the Committee at least twice a year, setting the agenda and chairing these meetings;

3) managing the current work of the Committee;

4) applying to the chairman of the Department for the appointment of the Chairman of the Editorial Board and the Editor-in-Chief of the Committee's publications;

5) representing the Committee outside.

§ 4

The tasks of the Presidium of the Committee include adopting resolutions, in particular on:

1) creating and modifying the Committee's work plan,

2) reports on the activities of the Committee,

3) submitted by the plenary meeting of the Committee, by Division I or by the Presidium of the Academy, unless such resolutions require the consent of the plenary meeting of the Committee.

 

§ 5

The tasks of the Plenary Meeting of the Committee include adopting resolutions, in particular on:

1) accepting rules and regulations and possible changes to them;

2) include, by selection, specialists in the field of social and church life and representatives of specialist scientific societies;

3) appointing members of the Editorial Board and Editorial Committee of the Committee's publications;

4) creating internal organizational units within the Committee: commissions, sections or teams; national sections of international scientific unions and associations may act as committees or sections of the Committee;

5) the composition of committees, sections or teams;

6) appointing teams to perform specific tasks, determining the scope and date of their operation.

 

§ 6

The President of the Committee may convene a meeting of the Committee's Presidium or a plenary meeting of the Committee at the request of 30 percent of the members of the Committee.

 

§ 7

1. The chairman shall notify about the planned dates of the meetings no later than 14 days before the scheduled date of the meeting.

2. The notification is made via e-mail.

§ 8

1. Resolutions of the Presidium of the Committee and resolutions of plenary meetings of the Committee shall be passed in open voting by a simple majority of votes in the presence of at least half of the members.

2. Resolutions on personnel matters are passed in a secret ballot.

3. In urgent matters, with the exception of personnel matters, the Chairman of the Committee may order voting by correspondence or by means of electronic communication.

 

§ 9

Minutes are made of the meetings of the Presidium of the Committee and the plenary meetings of the Committee and signed by the person chairing the meeting and the recording clerk.

 

§ 10

1. The structure of the Committee may incorporate sections, lower committees and project teams referred to in § 6 sec. 1 point 5 of the Regulations for the election of members of the scientific committee and its bodies (Annex to Resolution No. 28/2001 of the Presidium of the Polish Academy of Sciences of May 26, 2011).

2. Committee members shall join the section and the commission.

3. The plenary meeting of the Committee may appoint, by resolution, teams to perform specific tasks, specifying the scope and date of their operation.

4. The teams referred to in point 3 may be entered by persons from outside the Committee.

 

§ 11

1. The plenary meeting elects the members, the president and the vice-president of the section, committee and team.

2. Only persons who are members of the Committee may act as chairman, deputy chairman, and members of sections and commissions.
